The Conservation Volunteers have an opportunity for a Volunteer Officer to help lead our Biodiversity Action Team East. This is an excellent opportunity to join a busy proactive team.

The TCV Biodiversity Action Team East is a unique and exciting team responsible for nature conservation and construction of community engagement projects to help people connect with their local Green Space and local communities by taking part in outdoor nature conservation activities.

As a VO you will be helping volunteers to engage with and improve their environment, learn about nature conservation and enjoy healthier lifestyles. You will play an integral part in the smooth running of the Biodiversity Action Team East, including:

  • Pre-project planning: risk assessments, site surveys, community engagement and liaising with partners, local authorities, and clients.
  • Practical nature conservation and leadership: Leading and assisting groups of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds on project days to complete conservation tasks such as, sowing wildflowers, tree care, fence repair, fence construction, building raised beds and laying down footpaths, general gardening and tree/hedge planting etc.
  • Administration & marketing: Supporting the day to day running of the project including database management, creating newsletters and promotion.

Our leadership program is a fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to gain the experience vital to land a paid position working in the environmental or community sector. A full training package is provided including First Aid, Project Leadership, Risk Assessment, and Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups. Reasonable local travel expenses are covered and full support and mentoring is provided by the Project Officer. Within each project there is scope for you to tailor the role to your requirements; you can have a positive influence on the project’s development.

Essential to this role are excellent communication / people skills and an enthusiasm for the outdoors and the environment. If you have an interest in gaining practical conservation skills, learning about leading groups, community engagement and organising work days, this role is for you.

Acceptance as a Volunteer Officer is subject to satisfactory DBS clearance at the enhanced level.

To gain real benefit from the placement please be prepared to commit to a minimum of three days a week, project days are run on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
