About The Conservation Volunteers (TCV)

Reclaiming green spaces since 1959, TCV has been using local collective action to support over 300,000 volunteers each year on environmental conservation projects and is the UK's leading practical conservation charity. TCV connects people with place, builds healthy, sustainable communities, and increases peoples’ life skills.

About Lavender Pond

A man made site created in the early 1980s, the site is now a designated local nature reserve (LNR) and has Green Flag award status. The original purpose of the park was as an education site, and community green space, both of which are still as important as ever!

About the role

As a Volunteer Officer with TCV, you will gain vital experience in the conservation, countryside management and ecology sectors. VOs will be involved in all aspects of managing and developing the sites habitats, as well as working alongside local volunteers, fundraising, surveying, and working with school groups.

Which days are you needed?

Volunteer Officers need to commit to 2-3 days per week. Ideally, these would be Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays.

What we can offer you

  • Free comprehensive formal and informal training tailored to your individual interests and needs. Topics include (but are not limited to): habitat/landscape management, species monitoring and surveying, project planning and management, flora/fauna identification, practical conservation skills, leadership training, events management, community engagement, risk management, and first aid.
  • Regular supervision and on-going support to help monitor your progress, and help with personal development.
  • Help with job applications and CVs, plus references for committed volunteers.
  • Reimbursement of travel expenses.

What are we looking for?

People with a passion for the environment, who want to learn how to make our green spaces succeed as sites for wildlife and people. This is an ongoing position with potential for increased responsibility and further training opportunities for committed volunteers.
