The City of London owns and manages almost 4,500 hectares of historic and natural open spaces for recreation and publice health. Our green spaces, most of which are chaitable trusts, are run at little cost to the communities they serve. Our spaces in and beyond the City of London have over 23 milion visits each year.

The City Of London Corporation's Open Space Department has developed a tool kit to evaluate and monitor the Open Spaces learning programmes. The Learning Team is looking for an enthusiastic volunteer to put this tool kit into action and help evaluating children's learning exeperiences.

What will you be doing:

Support the Learning team in conducting and recording evaluation activites:

  • Observe and record evaluation activites for an in-depth exploration of children's experiences of the 'Green Spaces Programmes'.
  • Use a set of shared indicators to record levels of engagement across the Learning Team five impact areas.
  • Use an agreed set of questions to analyse children's drawings and interviews.

There will be opportunities to:

  • Develop an understanding of children's learning and development.
  • Gain first experience of some evaluation techniques.
  • Contribute to research into learning.
  • Be part of an amazing and friendly team.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Enthusiastic and confident in interacting with children.
  • Able to work in a team of staff and volunteers.
  • Comfortable in being outdoors.
  • Interested in developing skills in education and evaluation techniques.

We will support you by:

  • Payng reasonable travel expenses.
  • Providing a dedicated member of staff as point of contact from the beginning to the end of your placement.
  • Giving you an induction and plan to help you get the most out of your placement.
  • Providing on-going training to help you get better at your role.

Commitment:

All volunteers are placed on a three months initially which helps managers and volunteers to get a feel for how well the role and volunteer are matched

For this role we ask that you commit to 2 days per week over the summer period
