Approximately 1.8 million visits are made each year by RSPB members and non-members to the 200 nature reserves spread throughout the UK. Of these, we have been collecting visitor survey data at around 30 of our most developed sites and would like to find out a bit more about the types of visitor attracted to our reserves and what their expectations are during their visit.

We want you to use your experience and expertise to help us develop a segmentation of RSPB nature reserve visitors which will be used to enable the RSPB to better support the educational and leisure interests of visitors, prioritise resource and inform decisions on developing future marketing opportunities.

You'll enjoy exploring data and appreciate the challenge of finding an analyses solution that is a good fit for the business while preserving the integrity of the data and the statistical testing undertaken. It's your opportunity to undertake a small bespoke project in support of the RSPB but one that has the potential to change the conversations about how reserves are managed for RSPB visitors and how future on-site resources are deployed.

  • You will need to be experienced in conducting statistical analyses/testing and especially comfortable in the use of multivariate analyses techniques. -You will also need to be familiar with and preferably have access to, a current suitable statistical software package that you feel confident in using.
  • You'll be someone who readily understands and appreciates both the RSPB business objectives and potential opportunities that could be realised through undertaking a segmentation of RSPB reserve visitors. You will be at ease working with a comparatively large dataset of circa 15,000 survey interviews and with data that is held in an excel format
  • Comfortable in your own abilities and largely self contained in the way you prefer to work, you will nonetheless be confident in proactively asking for information or seeking clarification when this is required to deliver the project.
  • ¬†Ideally you will have a demonstrable interest in understanding or developing visitor experience but in any case you will be reliable, organised, possess good communications skills and have an attention to detail.

Whilst this role is advertised as being located at RSPB Headquarters it is also suitable to be based out at home.

Appropriate training will be provided and expenses will be re-imbursed where necessary. The RSPB is the UK charity working to secure a healthy environment for birds and wildlife, helping to create a better world for all of us. We belong to BirdLife International, the global partnership of bird conservation organisations. Your time and skills could make a real difference to the work of the RSPB and it would be great if you could join us.
