Sectors: conservation & wildlife, ecology

Closing date: Saturday, 31st March 2018

Do you want to be part of a new chapter of the Montgomery Canal, which is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest? One of the most picturesque canals on the network, it is only partly navigable, and thanks to a £4 million project, one of the next steps is the creation of a new nature reserve near Oswestry.

To assist our project Ecologist, we are seeking an enthusiastic volunteer to assist with monitoring and management of aquatic habitats, starting in spring 2018 and concluding the placement in autumn 2018. The successful applicant will be based at Ellesmere in Shropshire, and it is expected that the role will require two-three days per week.

Ideally suited to someone seeking a mix of fieldwork and desk based data processing, this role will suit a student or graduate who has some relevant knowledge and enthusiasm to get involved. Working on a live project such as this will offer excellent experience and whilst we cannot offer a paid placement, we can offer reasonable travel expenses for this role in addition to all equipment and PPE that is required.

Candidates will be short listed from an expression of interest and submission of a CV, and will be invited to an interview in Ellesmere in April 2018. Applications should be sent to Stuart Moodie, Acting Environment Manager, by 31 March - Stuart.Moodie@canalrivertrust.org.uk.
