A fantastic opportunity to experience the life and wildlife of the Brazilian Amazon while gaining valuable research experience.

We are looking for an enthusiastic research assistant to join our team of dedicated researchers at the University of Sheffield for the forthcoming field trip between the 13th of April and 18th of July.

Our project has been running since 2015 and is based in Jamari National Forest, Brazil, where we are studying the impacts of selective logging on plant communities.  


The candidate will be involved in conducting forest inventories, plant identification, analysing soil samples and hemispherical canopy cover analysis and will receive training and instruction in all aspects.

Volunteers should be disciplined, responsible, enthusiastic, and patient.  This is a demanding position with long hours so candidates should be in good physical condition.  A bachelor's degree is required and field experience is preferred but not required.

What is provided

Food, shared hotel accommodation, travel insurance, non-bar beverages and transport from Porto Velho to the site is provided. Unfortunately we can not cover international flights to Porto Velho.
