The Maypole Project is a small local charity which supports families with a child/children with long-term and life-limiting medical conditions. We have a 'Garden of Celebration' in Priory Gardens in Orpington and a small courtyard garden at our Head Office in Green Street Green which is used by our families and children when attending counselling/play sessions. We are in need of a volunteer who can help us maintain and develop these spaces on an ongoing or short-term basis.

Role responsibilities:

The ‘Garden of Celebration’ consists of 2 bedding areas. It is a place that families can visit and which raises awareness of the charity, encouraging local people to get involved and help. We also have a small courtyard garden. The volunteer gardener will undertake general gardening duties including:

  • Weeding
  • Watering
  • Planting
  • Pruning
  • Tidying/sweeping
  • Other ad-hoc gardening tasks as required

Garden equipment and tools are provided

Time commitment: Flexible depending on volunteer’s availability. A regular commitment would be appreciated, with more time needed in Spring and Summer

Person Specification:

  • Basic gardening knowledge and skills
  • Able to work autonomously
  • Good communication skills
  • Able to adhere to health and safety procedures
  • Able to follow The Maypole Project policies and guidelines at all times whilst volunteering
