Energy Garden is looking for an office volunteer to join the team!

Role description

We help community groups to design, install and maintain community gardens on their local London Overground station. You will be working directly with the community groups, project managers, project officers and provide administrative support to the Directors. There will be both office based duties and on the ground assistance at the sites of our various projects. The successful applicant will have an understanding of the personal nature of voluntary work and the need to nurture relationships within the community to develop projects.

Energy Garden are ideally looking for individuals with experience in gardening and/or social media. Experience in one would be great. Experience in both would be perfect!

This role is unpaid, however travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The Energy Garden team supports communities across London to transform London Overground platforms and stations into thriving gardens that incorporate food growing plots and solar energy providing on-site renewable energy for lighting, water pumps or other small scale station amenities. Energy Gardens promote food and energy security, create resilient communities and improve the health and well-being of Londoners.

  • Must have a strong command of English language
  • Must be competent at promoting our activities through Twitter, Facebook and other social media, with an understanding of how to use social media as a tool to generate public engagement.
  • Experience in gardening would be beneficial but is not essential as long as you are keen to learn.
  • Able to quickly analyse text and data to generate documents, spreadsheets, reports, posters, newsletters, etc
  • Able to write clearly and concisely. This can range from simplifying information for a wide audience to generating high level reports with clear technical information
  • Must be competent with desktop programs such as Word, Excel & PowerPoint
