In this role, you will help tell the stories from our busy gardens in King’s Cross and Canada Water. Using online and offline tools you will help position the Skip Garden and its cafe as a different and quirky space to visit, hang out, engage with others in the local community and eat amazing seasonal food. You will also help with the planning and delivery of events such as supper clubs, talks and occasional private hires. You will be based in the King’s Cross Skip Garden but may occasionally need to work from our Canada Water site. This is great opportunity for a creative and curious individual who would like to gain practical experience of marketing for a grassroots organisation.

Organisational Context

Global Generation has an established network of urban food-growing sites in King’s Cross, of which the Skip Garden is the ‘mothership’. Our work is focused on the development of the whole person, providing support for young people to become catalysts for change in their communities. We integrate values-based reflective learning into practical sessions, enabling young people to grow themselves, grow relationships and grow a new vision for the future.

Our garden and café are now much more open to the public, and we are are hosting a number of exciting summer events. We are looking for an Events and Marketing Intern who will be able to work closely with the rest of the team and help us get the Skip Garden and Café to the next level – help us promote what we do and increase the number of visitors we get to our magical garden in the middle of the King’s Cross regeneration site.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work across all the different teams to promote the Skip Garden, Paper Garden and Café to as large an audience as possible using different marketing means – such as social media, leaflets, updating our website, involving local businesses, networking and increasing the Skip Garden’s presence with local organisations
  • Assist with the planning, administration and delivery of events at the Skip Garden
  • Increase awareness of the Skip Garden and Global Generation both locally and to audiences London-wide
  • Create written and digital content for our website and social media
  • Create and edit photos and videos at Skip Garden events and workshops, sharing both internally and externally
  • Assist with ad-hoc general duties when necessary

Essential Skills and Experience

This would be an ideal role for a student or recent graduate with:

  • Strong communication and copy-writing skills
  • Strong organisational and time management skills
  • Great customer service skills
  • Good technical ability in using social media tools, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Good research skills
  • Creative thinking, flexibility and a positive attitude
  • The ability to work independently as well as with other people
  • Empathy with Global Generation’s ethos and interest in values-based learning
  • Interest in working with young people and the natural environment


  • Photography and/or video production experience
  • Previous experience of updating and managing websites
  • Interest/knowledge of specialist food and event bloggers


  • You will work closely with all the Skip Garden teams (events, kitchen, youth programme and garden) giving you a complete understanding of the organisation and how we work
  • You will be supported and mentored to develop your skills and gain valuable practical experience in events management and marketing
  • You will have access to classes and workshops including: yoga, bee-keeping, and twilight gardening.
