Gain wide-ranging experience in every aspect of the work of an RSPB Visitor Experience Officer, as part of a dedicated and passionate team working in the world-famous Loch Garten Osprey Centre on RSPB Abernethy, delivering a top quality visitor experience and first class customer care. Both of our 2017 volunteer interns gained paid employment in the conservation sector immediately after their internship.

You'll receive:

  • On-going professional development and appropriate training eg Membership Recruitment, First Aid, Safeguarding, Working with Volunteers, public affairs and media, plus the chance to gain experience elsewhere on Abernethy, in research or conservation.
  • A mentor to monitor your progress and help with personal / professional development.
  • Experience of working with and supervising other volunteers, both residential and day.
  • Access to our internal vacancies.
  • The chance to attend the ringing of the osprey chicks (if we get some!)
  • Free accommodation is available in a beautiful location on RSPB Abernethy National Nature Reserve.

Main duties:

  • Welcoming and engaging with all visitors to the Osprey Centre; inspiring them about the wildlife of Abernethy and the ospreys.
  • Growing support for the RSPB by making members; you will have your own membership target and will contribute to the reserve target.
  • Assisting with all aspects of running a visitor centre - ordering membership stock and pin badges, record keeping, ensuring the centre is operating smoothly etc
  • Helping to develop, promote and deliver fun, engaging nature activities for families.
  • Supporting and supervising teams of short-term residential volunteers.
  • Writing press releases, Loch Garten blogs and keeping our Facebook and Twitter feeds up to date.
  • Helping in the Loch Garten shop – handling transactions and assisting with stock.
