The Canal & River Trust is among the UK’s largest charities, with responsibility for 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, reservoirs, docks, museums and archives in England & Wales. Our vision is for living waterways which transform places and enrich lives.

Our canals and rivers are national treasures, rich in history and wildlife. Their varied and beautiful environment makes them very special places to visit. We’re here to protect them for future generations to enjoy.

The Canal & River Trust is pleased to offer an opportunity for a voluntary sandwich year placement as a Volunteer Environmental Assistant within our Environment Team.

The Volunteer Environmental Assistant will be based at Northwich, but can expect to travel regularly to other offices (such as Kidsgrove, Rochdale and Wigan) and canals and rivers across Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Shropshire, Staffordshire, North and Mid Wales.

The placement will involve both field and office based work. More detailed information on the role is available on request.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer the placement as a salaried role, but we can cover travel and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.

The placement will be available for a minimum period of 36 weeks and is being offered for a minimum of 3 days per week. There may be some flexibility regarding the start/end date of the placement.

Candidates will be short listed from an expression of interest and submission of a CV and be invited to interview at our offices in Northwich.
