Full time, 5 days per week from early/mid-April until early/mid-September with regular weekend working (core period of 10.00am to 4.00pm during summer holidays)

Why We Want You:

This role is based at Slapton Ley Field Centre but most of your time will be spent on the nature reserve and will involve:

  • Running events and activities for visitors such as rock-pooling and bat walks
  • Observe and assist with Key Stage 2 groups
  • Working from the ‘beach trailer’ and providing information for visitors, helping them discover what Slapton Ley has to offer
  • Assisting the ranger in management of the nature reserve.

What we are looking for:

  • You should have a pleasant manner and good communication skills – being able to relate well to Centre staff and our full range of customers.     
  • Qualifications (A Level or equivalent) in ecology, geography or related subjects would be of benefit, as would a qualification in basic first aid.
  • Experience of working with young people and/or experience of working in a conservation environment would also be beneficial.


  • In relation to employment legislation you will be considered a ‘voluntary’ worker, and as such the role is unpaid. However, board and lodging may be provided free of charge during the period in which you remain a volunteer and you will be reimbursed for any reasonable expenses that you necessarily incur in the carrying out of your voluntary role.
  • A Uniform is provided by the FSC.
  • There is also a potential for part-time employment at the Centre in order to top up income.
