Many Buckinghamshire residents are worried, and rightfully so, about our countryside. People are concerned about the continued pressure to build, and major infrastructure projects such as HS2 that are on the way. Serving as a CPRE (Campaign to Protect Rural England) trustee is a way to do something about the pressure our county is under and to help protect the countryside you love.

Though CPRE is a national charity, we are a small and relatively new branch. Your time and skills will have a real impact on our ability to respond to requests we receive from the public, to recruit new members and to ensure that the voice of Buckinghamshire residents is heard by local and national influencers.

Please consider joining CPRE Buckinghamshire as a trustee. This is an ideal opportunity for people who live in and love Buckinghamshire and who want to support environmental and conservation campaigns. You will have the opportunity to meet local people and feel part of a friendly and highly engaged group. Depending on your skills and interests, you can contribute to our work to:

  • work on campaigns, ranging from responses to major planning consultations to anti-littering
  • identify donors who can support our work and help us apply for grants
  • gather information to prepare policy statements on key campaign issues or major planning applications affecting Buckinghamshire's countryside
  • use your social media skills to keep the public informed about our work
  • help plan and deliver events from planning workshops to promotional appearances at markets and fairs
  • engage with influencers, including MPs and county, district and parish council representatives
  • investigate planning applications which have a significant impact on the Buckinghamshire countryside and help influence their outcome

Ideally, you have expertise or a keen interest in:

  • campaigning or marketing
  • social media
  • event planning
  • environmental and conservation issues
  • town planning or land use policy
  • sustainable rural communities
  • acces to affordable housing

You will have a chance to use your skills and/or professional expertise and be a precious resource to protecting the environment you live in. You will work alongside a friendly group of committed trustees and volunteers. The work itself fits well alongside professional, family and other voluntary work - most of our trustees have multiple volunteer commitments. You will be part of the Campaign To Protect Rural England, a national charity with a rich heritage, and be invited to events where you can meet others in Buckinghamshire and across England who are similarly engaged in protecting green spaces.

You can work either in or out of office hours, from home or from our office in Monks Risborough.

Our trustees meet 6 times per year, plus an AGM. If you are part of a specific working group, you may be invited to 2-3 additional meetings per year.

Upon joining our board, you'll be invited for an induction day at CPRE's national office in London to meet the CPRE leadership team and campaigners. There are also opportunities to attend our national conference, policy debates and workshops throughout the year.
