The Lake District National Park Authority looks after this unique corner of England, encouraging people to enjoy and understand its beauty and helping those who live and work here. We have a statutory duty to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage and promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment of the special qualities of national parks by the public.

One of the ways we do this is through our new Lake District Ambassadors programme. More than 17 million people visit the Lake District every year, many for the first time. People come for a huge variety of reasons but the top five include walking, exploring the country side, getting on the water and visiting attractions. A rural and often remote environment, the Lake District can feel overwhelming to some who arrive and are unsure where to start. That’s where our fantastic volunteers come in. Based at key locations across the National Park, Lake District Ambassadors are passionate people, easily identifiable in their vibrant kit, on hand to help visitors make the most of their trip.
