Are you looking for experience in environment conservation, project management or working with community groups? We are looking for new people to join the team in Croydon.

We currently run project days on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, taking groups of volunteers to sites in and around Croydon to work on improving green spaces. The tasks include coppicing; planting; fencing and footpath work; pond maintenance; and general habitat creation and management. We work on a wide variety of sites, from urban parks and ponds to ancient woodland and chalk wildflower meadows. Our website www.tcv.org.uk/london/croydon provides details of our upcoming projects and our Facebook page www.facebook.com/tcvcroydon provides a photo diary of our recent projects. We have also recently begun a heritage lottery funded project looking at the history and ecology of Croydon's Ponds. This project will include research work and supporting local volunteer groups in maintaining and improving their ponds.

We are looking for Volunteer Project Leaders to help plan, lead and deliver projects and help us to expand to take on new projects. These roles will provide practical experience and we can also provide training courses in areas such as project leadership, and first aid. We use a van to transport our volunteers and tools to project sites and so a full, clean driving license held for over two years is highly desirable – training to drive the van would be provided.

These are unpaid positions but we will cover reasonable expenses incurred as part of your work. To get the most out of these posts we would expect you to commit the equivalent of at least 3 days per week for a period of at least six months. As with most voluntary positions, the more you put into your time with us the more you will gain from it.

You do not need any previous experience. Your willingness to “have a go” and be involved is the most important qualification. This applies whether you are straight out of education or are looking for a change in career.

If you wish to be considered for one of these posts then please get in touch by emailing a copy of your CV and a short note explaining what you believe you can bring to the role.
