BANC produces the independent online journal ECOS, which takes a critical look at the nature conservation movement in Britain. Bringing together influential writers and practitioners from across the sector, ECOS has built a reputation for challenging, innovative and accessible commentary on the scientific, social, political and cultural aspects of nature in Britain.

ECOS has recently made the move to fully digital. It will now be taking the next step to open access. The digital editor will be at the forefront of BANCs open access image and will be paramount in ensuring BANC and ECOS is well represented in the digital world.

We're looking for someone with a passion for science and conservation with a good knowledge of working with web-based tools. The role incorporates aspects of digital marketing, editorial work and social media strategy.

You’ll need to be motivated and pro-active, this is a really exciting time for us as we aim to grow our subscriber base by adopting a new digital open access model and we need someone who can fit into the team and work without supervision. You’ll be able to put your own stamp on the website and we’d really like to hear your thoughts and ideas for raising our online profile.

Must have:

  • In-depth understanding and experience with WordPress and website management
  • Experience in the conservation/environment sector
  • Experience developing a digital strategy
  • Good writing and editing ability - a keen eye for detail
  • Good knowledge of social media tools (Facebook/Twitter) and scheduling software such as Hootsuite
  • Awareness of current trends in digital media and the ability to learn and integrate new software or tools

Nice to have:

  • Capable of using design and editing software like Photoshop
  • SEO knowledge
  • Ability to drum up contacts to write articles/promote
  • Knowledge of Google Advertising and Facebook Advertising
  • Experience using analytics
  • Image creation, use of Adobe creative suite
