Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s fundraising and engagement team are seeking a new Communications Voluntary Trainee to help us with our work engaging with 42,000 members and the wider public in Yorkshire about our work for wild places and wildlife. The Fundraising and Engagement team are responsible for communications, membership, fundraising, campaigning and volunteering; which is growing from strength to strength. The team communicates through a wide variety of media including written publications such as; a quarterly member’s magazine, leaflets, posters, site interpretation, press releases, our website and social media. We are offering a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic and creative team, where you can learn new skills in communications alongside our Communications Manager and the wider team. This role would be suited to someone who is interested in developing a career in Communications/PR or similar.

The role is for 6 months and will be between 2-3 days a week, there is flexibility with days and this can discussed at interview. You can expect a competitive training budget, travel expenses and you will be based at our HQ in York.

You will gain experience in:

  • Writing e-communications using email marketing tool Campaign Monitor
  • Experience of using a content management system to edit and create content on the Trust’s website
  • Experience of using social media channels and scheduling tools to increase brand recognition for the Trust
  • Experience of writing press releases and sending them out to press contacts
  • Experience of working with a busy and vibrant team
  • Experience of writing articles for printed publications
  • Improve communication skills
  • Improve proof-reading skills
