Thrive is the leading charity in the UK that uses gardening to bring about positive changes in the lives of people who are living with disabilities or ill health, or are isolated, disadvantaged or vulnerable. This is known as social and therapeutic horticulture (STH).

We are looking for Client Garden Support Volunteers to support our horticultural therapists in delivering a high level of service to individuals with a disability or ill health. These individuals (client gardeners) come to our gardening projects with a range of disabilities and the programmes they follow will vary from general gardening to working towards horticultural qualifications.

Tasks will include:

  • developing social interaction with  client gardeners and encouraging them to work and talk with others
  • working alongside client gardeners demonstrating or guiding for example sowing seeds, pruning, mowing etc.

We have opportunities at each of our three centres in London, Reading and Birmingham and on our Health in Justice Programme at HMP Hewell, Redditch. This is working with prisoners with mental health support needs in the prison gardens.

This opportunity is ideal for those considering a career in social and therapeutic horticulture.
