We are looking for a trainee to assist our North Yorkshire Field Officer based in North Yorkshire (Pickering, North Yorkshire Moors and Scarborough areas) to carry out practical conservation tasks, lead volunteer groups and assist with general reserve management work. If you would like to gain first-hand experience in practical conservation techniques and learn from our skilled and knowledgeable staff this role is perfect!

The role will be split between practical and office based tasks, with the majority of time spent in the field, gaining experience in habitat management activities, woodland and forestry operations – this includes for example, scrub clearance, wetland creation, invasive species removal, fence and gate repairs, clearance operations, ditch works and rubbish removal amongst a variety of other tasks.

You will have the opportunity to work alongside groups of volunteers and even have a chance at leading small groups, you will also interacting with visitors to the nature reserve, e.g. to point out features or explain management of the site.

This role is part of a wider rolling programme of Traineeships offered by Yorkshire Wildlife Trust – you will be part of a wider team of 20+ voluntary Trainees and an internal programme of training and development is offered to all Trainees, as well as a generous budget for Training. We also offer a contribution towards daily out-of-pocket travel expenses to all our voluntary Trainees.

Ideally, applicants would have access to a car as they will need to travel to sites across the area, not always on a public transport route. This roles is for 12 months, 3 days a week and are based predominantly out on reserves.
