Be a part of a 3 year partnership project aimed at getting girls and young women (age range 5-25 years old) out and about enjoying nature and learning about wildlife.

The RSPB and Girlguiding London and South East England Region (LaSER) have joined up to organize a series of events (large and small) aimed at offering fun informal nature learning activities for Girlguiding leaders, young women and girls.

The success of this partnership project is very reliant on volunteers to help run these activities. Some of the bigger events may require a number of RSPB volunteer assistants to support it, so you'd need to be a good team player too.

We'd need you to have a passion for wildlife and a desire to pass this on to others, so communication skills are also key, along with the ability to adapt your style depending on the age of your audience.

Your tasks would include:

Before each event & activity: assist the RSPB Activity Lead volunteer to set up the activity at the venue.

During each event: Assisting the RSPB Youth Partnership Officer or the RSPB Activity Lead volunteer with activities like: taking small groups of girls on mini beast hunts; bird/mammal watching; playing sensory nature games; helping the girls to use binoculars and telescopes, and generally encouraging exploration, helping to build confidence. Talking to Girlguiding LaSER Leaders about the partnership.

After each event: Helping to take down event kit and tidy materials, ensuring the safe use and storage of equipment if used. Assist with gathering feedback from the girls and Girlguiding Leaders.

NB. We'd train you in everything you need to know beforehand & provide you with an RSPB uniform and all the resources you'd need for the activities. You'd have the ongoing support from our RSPB staff member who leads on this partnership project every step of the way.

What's in it for you:

A great opportunity to inspire adults, young women and girls about nature by getting outdoors to explore it. You'd also be helping to provide young women and girls with the chance to discover their full potential and encourage them to be a powerful force for nature conservation.

An excellent opportunity to add to your CV in terms of assisting with activities and environmental education.

You'll be part of a small friendly team of staff and volunteers and have the opportunity to make new friends.
