Iceland Conservation Volunteers - Trail Work Summer 2025
Umhverfisstofnun
The ICV Trail Team programme is organised by the Environment Agency of Iceland (Umhverfisstofnun).
Trail Teams work on a variety of projects related to conservation management and ecological restoration throughout the country's national parks and nature reserves, often staying in camps (in tents) in these areas. The main tasks are natural trails maintenance and building, landscape restoration, removal of invasive plants, and so on. Volunteers work in small teams and travel between areas to complete a series of practical projects. An important role of the Trail Teams is to support the work of local rangers. The programme runs for 9 weeks either from the 1st or the 29th of June 2025. The teams usually spend one or two weeks in each location all around Iceland.
Due to the hands-on work and the need of hiking in order to reach work locations, participants must be physically fit. Applicants should have some experience of outdoor practical activities, camping and hiking. The remoteness of work sites and Iceland’s notoriously changeable weather make the volunteer program both an adventure and a challenge. Applicants must be over 20 years of age.
