Sectors: conservation & wildlife, environmental education, ecology

Closing date: Not specified, apply soon!

Operation Wallacea is a network of academics who design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research programmes across multiple sites worldwide.

We are currently recruiting an experienced bird surveyor to work at the Knepp Rewilding Estate in West Sussex. More information on our projects is available on the website, and the dates we are searching for are listed below:

  • 11th August - 17th August

The position will involve working with students and volunteers aged 16+ in the field to lead ringing demonstrations, point counts and BBS transects for our volunteers. These would include a brief talk to the group before going out into the field, teaching the survey methods and explaining as you go. You will be accompanied by a trainee ringer who is familiar with the site. Applicants should have experience of working in the field, good communication and organisational skills and preferably a biological background.

In return, successful applicants receive full accommodation and food on-site, current and future research opportunities, networking and skills development, and of course the opportunity to contribute towards long-term conservation efforts.

The position will be filled as and when we find suitable candidates, so if you are interested, please apply as soon as you can to give yourself the best chance. The positions involve working with minors, so if successful, you will be asked to complete a background check.
