Join us today as a conservator volunteer on the Huddersfield Narrow and Ashton Canals.
We are looking for somebody that can either assist as part of a team, or undertake water control on their own travelling the canal and undertaking water control.
Estimated time for completion of task is between 3-6 hours.
We will provide a vehicle for volunteers that aspire to undertake this task alone.
Activities will include managing water levels through lock operation, clearance of trash grilles and utilising wastewater structures such as weirs and sluices.

No previous knowledge is required. There will be a local induction, training and a simple assessment, meaning you will be a qualified lock operator.
Water control is one of the fundamental and most important tasks we undertake on daily basis and deals with our most important issue (water), ensuring the canal is accessible to visitors and boaters, and compliant with any ecological and environmental stipulations.
