Atlantic58 is a small but rapidly growing consultancy based in the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. We provide a range of professional environmental consultancy services, focusing on projects within the unique social, cultural, and ecological environment of the Western Isles. Our clients range from local community development trusts to global multinationals and cover a huge variety of sectors including renewables, the space sector, aquaculture, forestry, and fisheries.

A position is now available as a Senior or Principal Environmental / Ecological Consultant to support our diverse range of locally based projects across the onshore and offshore environment.

The role is ideal for an experienced Senior EIA consultant / Ecologist, or an existing EIA Consultant looking for progression and an opportunity to grow their knowledge and skills into new sectors in a beautiful location. It is particularly suited to a consultant with existing specialist knowledge that wishes to diversify into other areas of project management.

Living in the Hebrides

The business’ success is linked to our local knowledge and understanding of the unique nature of the Western Isles, and we do require that candidates (in the medium to long term) live within the Western Isles. Living within the Western Isles provides a unique lifestyle experience suitable for both families and single people, whilst also offering affordable housing, quiet commuting routes and the opportunity to build a rural lifestyle in a unique crofting community where Gaelic is still widely taught and spoken. In addition to the rich cultural heritage, the area offers a unique opportunity to experience numerous outdoor activities including paddleboarding, surfing, wild swimming and wildlife watching opportunities.

The role

As a small growing business, there are significant opportunities to get involved in a range of sectors and projects, as well as aspects related to the business running and development. The opportunity to build and develop business streams related to your skills and preferences will be actively encouraged.

The role will be client facing and tasks are likely to include:

  • Authoring and reviewing reports and chapters.
  • Managing sub-contractors.
  • Stakeholder engagement and consultation.
  • Mentoring and supporting junior members of staff.
  • Conducting or managing research and site surveys / assessments in line with relevant qualifications and experience.
