We are delighted to be offering an exciting new opportunity for an experienced Tree Planting & Aftercare Manager to join our team at Maydencroft Limited.

Many of our clients are faced with the challenges of how to significantly increase woodland creation across the UK. Nature recovery and the need to sequester carbon to counter climate change are drivers for accelerating woodland planting nationally. The planting needs of our clients and partners creates a unique series of requirements that we feel are best delivered through a dedicated managerial position within our team.

In order to achieve success, you will need to enhance and build upon our existing subcontractor network, this will ensure that we can deliver tree planting and woodland creation projects nationally. The successful candidate will also create strong relationships with our supply chain, including tree nurseries. We will require high quality planting stock, prices well negotiated and available on time.

Our clients include landowners and managers, utility companies, charities, foresters, land agents, rural advisors and woodland specialists across all sectors. Projects will vary in size from individual specimen trees to large woodland creation and landscape scale rewilding. We have clients with large commitments to plant over a million trees in the coming years, and many projects already scheduled for planting from November 2022, the role is of to a good start and the successful candidate will hit the ground running.

Key responsibilities

  • Manage our clients tree planting projects, including the sourcing of appropriate plants and to plan and prioritise works on their behalf, keeping them content and informed at all times.
  • To engage with tree suppliers, order plants and arrange delivery dates for tree and woodland planting works, this may include materials for forest track, paths and fencing.
  • In consultation with clients, prepare and implement woodland planting, hedgerow planting or individual tree planting schemes.
  • Managing opportunities by preparing tenders, quotations & estimates for clients and commercial bids to bring in new business.
  • Developing and presenting project proposals.
  • Producing plans and estimating budgets and timescales.
  • Manage and develop a subcontractor network, utilising our supplier evaluation questionnaire.
  • Working with your subcontractors/site teams to better understand timescales, strengths and weaknesses.
  • Managing employees appointed to you.
  • Supporting the work of our consultancy division to advise clients on appropriate new or replacement tree planting schemes and the creation of new woodlands.
  • Ensure procurement of materials and nursery stock is carried out in accordance with company procedures to best value.
  • To support our consultancy division to complete any other relevant documentation as required for organisations such as Forestry Commission, Rural Payments Agency, Environment Agency, Natural England, Woodland Trust, etc.
  • To support, and lead where necessary, the delivery of other land management projects.



  • Extensive experience of Local authorities and managing large contracts.
  • Knowledge of Industry standards and relevant Health & Safety Legislation.
  • The ability to manage projects and contracts.
  • Previous large scale tree planting experience.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent IT and Administration skills.
  • The ability to develop relationships with clients.
  • Full, Clean UK driving licence.


  • Line management experience.
  • Experience of Pre-Qualification and Tendering process.

This is a full time Monday-Friday position, with annually increasing holiday entitlement. All PPE/Workwear, IT equipment provided plus the use of our fleet of vehicles. Great company benefits, personalised training and development plan with great opportunities.

This position can be based at either of our offices in Letchworth, Hertfordshire or Windsor, Berkshire, With the option for remote working if required.

Projects could be located within a large geographical area, therefore, the ability to be flexible, travel and occasionally stay away overnight will be required.
