About the role

As Volunteer Development Ranger, you’ll coordinate and support the development of our volunteers
within the Lake District National Parks Ranger and Strategy teams, in ways that meet the
Authority’s Volunteer and Apprenticeship Strategies.

You’ll build on the excellent work our volunteers already carry out, recruit new volunteers and
develop new volunteering initiatives. You will be based at our Northern Office, located near
Keswick, but will be working throughout the national park with occasional weekend and evening work.
There is the potential for some home working and/or working from our other LDNPA offices based in
Kendal and Haverthwaite, Ulverston.

The main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • The key point of contact for all volunteering matters within the Strategy and Ranger Service
  • Lead on the recruitment, induction and ongoing support for our volunteers by collaboratively with the Volunteers Service
  • Ensure we have a diverse range of opportunities that can be promoted to all sectors of the local community
  • Lead in the training and development of apprentices, volunteers and their supervising staff to match needs of the service, staff and individuals involved.
  • Provide support to our Strategy & Ranger teams to engage and create innovative apprenticeship and volunteering experience

About you

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate significant people and communication skills and be
confident in working with and supporting people from a wide range of backgrounds. You’ll have a
successful track record in delivering projects and experience of managing or working with
volunteers on practical projects.
