South England Forest District includes some of our country’s busiest and most heavily protected landscapes with 46,000 hectares of land across public woods and forests, and two national parks. The forests are as diverse as the communities that surround them, with the large populations across the south coast and our proximity to London, we provide one of England’s most popular outdoor recreational destinations and have an estimated 45 million visits per year.
Forestry England has 130 car parks across its land in the New Forest. The current network was created in the early 1970s and is now in need of modernisation to help ensure we can meet the changing levels of demand and visitor engagement emerging post pandemic.
You will have the opportunity to help shape and deliver the future of this network, providing access to one of the country’s leading natural landscapes. As project manager your primary responsibility will be the development of the New Forest Car Park Strategy and future management model. You will be responsible for co-ordinating the project, reporting on progress and supporting discussion and integration against wider objectives.
You will be working with a range of technical specialists, assessing opportunities around the use of technology, civil engineering, spatial planning as well as visitor communication and recreational management.
You will also join the District’s Leadership Team, working as part of a wider peer group to support and help set the direction for the District.
