Help us shape the policies of the future.

The work of Ofgem has never been more important. Recent rises in gas prices have put untenable pressure on UK households and businesses, so it is vital that we work quickly to reduce the nation’s reliance on fossil fuels and find better alternatives. We are working towards the goal of achieving a Net Zero energy system by 2050, and as such you will be presented with the opportunity to develop specialist skills, knowledge and expertise within our key portfolios.

As a member of our Retail Directorate, you will work flexibly across a range of projects and portfolios including Financial Resilience and Controls, Retail Intelligence and Market Stability, Price Protection, Retail Systems and Processes, Retail Compliance, Retail Market Policy, Future Retail Market, and Retail Transformation and Delivery. Regardless of which project you are working on, you will effectively manage the resources available to you, and develop the professional skills of your team. From initially identifying the objectives and interdependencies of each project through to handling the budget and measuring the success of your outputs, you will work with a wide variety of partners including strategy teams, regulatory counterparts, colleagues in academia and the wider energy sector in order to deliver evidence-based policy suggestions.

Coming from a strategy or policy development background within a regulated sector, you will have a proven track record in delivering positive change for consumers, communities or society. You will therefore have a broad understanding of the regulatory, commercial and wider economic environment, and you will be capable of presenting policy recommendations that have considered the potential risks, trade-offs and benefits of each proposal. With good project management skills, you will enjoy solving problems for the greater good and managing a broad array of stakeholders. As such, you will have great communication and leadership skills, and you will be capable of successfully managing and coordinating deliverables within your team.

We know that the best ideas stem from an inclusive and diverse workforce that is reflective of the population that we serve. We therefore welcome candidates from all backgrounds, and especially those from underrepresented groups. In turn, we will provide you with a competitive benefits package that includes ongoing training and development opportunities and a good work-life balance. While this is a full-time role, flexible working patterns and job shares are welcome.
