EnviroCentre Limited has an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Ecologist to join an
enthusiastic team delivering technical ecological survey and reporting on a range of
development and land-use projects.
The successful candidate will work closely with colleagues, and industry partners in other
technical disciplines, to assist in the delivery of project work. Additionally, there will be opportunities to work independently on certain tasks and technical aspects, as well as develop professional and specialist skills supported by EnviroCentre’s mentoring
system.
The consultant role includes, but is not limited to, the following elements
to:
- Compilation of project specific desk studies and literature reviews;
- Planning of field survey logistics, preparation and implementation of survey methods;
- Phase 1 Habitat and protected species surveys;
- Presentation of data and preparation of survey reports;
- Assisting or acting as Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) to deliver onsite ecological
auditing mainly on infrastructure projects in Scotland;
- Data gathering and mapping using GIS and or QGIS;
- Contributing to/producing high quality ecological reports;
- Contribution to Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs);
- Understanding and writing risk assessments for safe site work;
- Managing small-scale projects; and
- Supporting office management and administrative tasks.
Your skills and experience will include:
- Educated to degree level in Ecology or a related discipline;
- At least 2 years’ of demonstrable consultancy experience (or equivalent within the
industry) reflecting the elements listed above;
- Confident in Phase 1 habitats/UKHAB and basic botanical skills;
- Confident in field survey of a range of British wildlife (typically: bats, badger, otter,
pine marten, red squirrel, water vole, GCN, etc.). Particular species specialisms are welcomed;
- Experience in using GIS or QGIS as well as standard Microsoft programs;

Qualifying or Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management;
- A good understanding of current environmental legislation, policy trends, standards and
established ecological guidance;
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Excellent time management;
- Experience in the role of Ecological or Environmental Clerk of Works is advantageous;
- GIS or QGIS skills will be advantageous;
- A current CSCS card or equivalent;
- The flexibility to work unsociable hours, or away from home as required; and
- A full, clean, UK driving licence.
