Sectors: conservation & wildlife, ecology, food, farming & horticulture

Closing date: Friday, 3rd June 2022

Operation Wallacea and the Biodiversity Credit Company are developing a novel way of monetising biodiversity conservation, through a credit system that will help channel private sector funding to real world biodiversity uplift projects around the world. We have initial funding in place to establish the concept in practice, further pledged investment in first generation projects, and a suite of proposed pilot projects currently in planning. Our intention is to give the private sector a standardised method of investing in biodiversity conservation with the long-term goal of matching their existing spending commitments on carbon. One of the cornerstones of our approach is a requirement for 60% of the income from selling credits to go to the local communities and/or landowners affected by the projects, ensuring as much of the investment as possible reaches those most in need of it.

Due to the speed at which this initiative is growing, we are expanding our team to increase our capacity for new projects, and have multiple positions available starting August 2022. We are seeking experienced professionals with significant expertise and relevant qualifications (undergraduate degrees or above) in one or more of the following areas:

  • Socioeconomics, community engagement, capacity building
  • Conservation project management, biodiversity surveying
  • Agriculture (particularly UK), rewilding of farmland
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of one of the greatest challenges facing nature in the 21st Century, applying innovative thinking to help both biodiversity and the communities who live alongside it. Successful applicants will be joining a dynamic team of likeminded people, with great potential for professional development and growth, in varied roles where no two days will be the same.

Positions will be based on hybrid working, with our main office in Lincolnshire. Positions are likely to require extensive travel both within the UK and internationally.
