Probationary Co-op Member position available at Sound Bites Derby

Sound Bites is Derby’s independent, ethical wholefood shop and not-for-profit workers co-operative. We began in 2005 to increase availability of ethical food and support positive social change in our local community. Everything we stock is carefully sourced, 100% vegan, as well as large ranges to cater for other specialised diets such as gluten free and organic. We believe in person led customer service and keeping the spirit of the High Street alive!

Hours available: Minimum of 15 hours up to 30 hours per week, though there is scope for flexibility. We are looking to recruit one or two people, so there is potential for a job share for the right candidate(s). This includes Saturdays and cover shifts as and when needed.

Wages: Wages are currently £10.50 p/ hr, equal to all existing employees and current living wage.

We are ideally looking for someone with managerial experience who can run the shop and manage a small team, whilst adhering to our co-operative principles. Other core tasks involve:

• Good computer & numeracy skills - using Quickbooks, Excel and Microsoft programs for book-keeping, payroll and rotas.
• Keyholder responsibilities – opening and closing the shop and banking.
• Ordering stock and developing relationship with suppliers.
• Show an understanding of, and commitment to, the principles and aims of Sound Bites.
• The ability to manage and be managed whilst sharing responsibilities for all areas of the business.
• The ability to work as part of a team in a sensitive manner and have an understanding and enthusiasm for cooperative working.
