We’re looking for someone with outstanding skills to help us shape the recovery of nature and the economy across the North of England.

Nature North is a new and exciting collaboration of environmental and conservation organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors. The collaboration is hosted by Cumbria Wildlife Trust. We’re working together to make sure that the natural environment is at the heart of green growth and climate resilience in Northern England.

Supported by funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund and Esmée Fairbairn Foundation, we are looking to appoint a Project Officer for a fixed-term of three years. This role will pay a key part in supporting the Nature North Partnership to develop Investable Propositions for nature recovery at scale. The person appointed will support the development of an Investment Plan for Nature for the North of England.

You will work with the Nature North Development Manager, secondees and members of the partnership in supporting investment readiness, advocacy, communications and community engagement activities and collating the spatial evidence base in support of the Investable Propositions and Investment Plan for Nature.

This varied role will include leading on the following activities:

  • Support the coordination of activities to support the development of the Nature North Investable Propositions – this will include activities around investment in nature, advocacy, community engagement and utilising a spatial evidence base for nature recovery.
  • Support the development of key project outputs including the Strategic Investment Plan for Nature in the North of England.
  • Work alongside other members of the Nature North team to establish and maintain the Nature North governance structure. This is likely to include the working with Advisory Panel, Nature North Community and work with Nature North Partners.
  • Work closely with a range of stakeholders from a range of sectors outside the environmental sector including business, finance, landowners, infrastructure, health and education.
  • Support the Nature North website maintenance, social media management and general communications.
  • Support the Nature North team and partners in developing funding bids which will support the aims and objectives of Nature North.
  • Support the organisation and running of Nature North events and Nature North Community meetings; produce event and forum reports.
  • Contribute to project reviews and evaluations.

You will be a person who has an ambition to secure a better future for the economy, people and nature of Northern England. You will have experience / ability to engage wider economic and social sectors and have a good understanding of the political landscape around issues on the environment and economic development. A knowledge of natural capital and its role in a green economy is key. The ability to be self-motivated and be an effective communicator is also essential.

Location: Home working - Remote-based (ideally within the North of England). The post holder must have the ability to travel throughout the North, where necessary.
