Adviser (Environment and Land Use)

2 vacancies (Exeter SW and Petersfield SE), with hybrid working.

You are sociable, friendly, outgoing and a good communicator. One of your strengths is that you are people orientated and enjoy building lasting business relationships, often tending to see the positive side of things. You have strong influencing skills, are driven and have a sense of urgency to get things done. You like variety and are energetic in your work approach, and you are keen to develop yourself.

You will be able to establish a firm connection with farmers and growers across the region as well as key stakeholders with an influence over environment and land use matters. To make that member connection, you will have an in-depth knowledge of current farming, related food and land use issues and have a real passion for agriculture, whether gained through your education, your background and/or your experience. Knowledge of the region and its land-based business landscape would be ideal but not essential.

About the role

These roles will provide skilled professional guidance and technical support to NFU members on a range of environmental, land use, climate change and planning issues affecting farmers and growers across the counties of the South West/South East. Acting as a lead member of staff for your region, the Environment and Land Use Adviser will maintain relationships with key stakeholders such as Local Authorities, National Parks, government agencies, water companies and many more organisations who have an influence on land use. This role is a key element of the regional team and will provide expert support and guidance to the south west and south east teams and our democratic structures, as well as maintaining a close working relationship with advisers in our headquarters.

Why join our team?

The successful candidate will have an option of either a company car or car allowance.

When applying, please can you confirm if you are applying for the South West (SW) or the South East (SE), or if you wish to be considered for both positions.

We recognise that some applicants may wish to work flexibly, and we welcome discussions regarding this. Please discuss this with us as part of the recruitment process.
