The Researcher Writers will join our growing team, trained to apply our rating system to the companies behind the brands in our product guides. After inputting the research into our database, we then write the articles which accompany each score table output.

Ethical Consumer is a not-for-profit multi-stakeholder cooperative, and welcomes applications from all sections of the community. We use name-blind shortlisting. The offices are upstairs in a wheelchair accessible building in Manchester.

Location: Our preference is for candidates within commutable distance of the office. Remote working is possible for the right candidate, with a proven record of successfully working remotely.

Salary: £14,287 - £17,144 pa pro rata (£10.99/hr for 25 – 30 hours per week)

Co-operative Responsibilities

New staff are required to work a probationary period of nine months, before they can become permanent staff and full members. Due to the length of training and the nature of this role, we are looking for someone interested in working with Ethical Consumer medium to long term. All members share the responsibilities of running the co-operative, including:

-Taking part in the decision-making process;
-Subgroups for areas of management including Personnel, Finance or Publishing.

Specific responsibilities - Researcher Writers will:

• Help to produce research for publication in Ethical Consumer magazine and on its website. During training, the employee will help research and write one product guide every two months with supervision. After this, they will continue to contribute product guides, features or news items as agreed collectively.
• Possibly assist with research for external consultancy clients. Recently, clients have included selected organisations such as Lush Cosmetics, Amnesty International, Fair Tax Mark and Which? magazine.
