Closing date: Wednesday, 2nd February 2022

Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, on behalf of the new Fens East Peat Partnership (FEPP), which sits within the broader Fens for the Future network, is seeking people with entrepreneurial spirit to identify and seize opportunities for large scale nature recovery across 20 different areas of peatlands within the Natural Character Area of the Fens (NCA46).

The post will be working with the FEPP delivery organisations of: Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, National Trust, Natural England, Norfolk Wildlife Trust, Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire & Northamptonshire. The Project Manager will cover the whole area of Fens North (Lincolnshire & Norfolk) and Fens South (Cambridgeshire & Suffolk). Through this initial Discovery Grant, we will be developing the evidence to apply for a full Restoration Grant in 2023.

Applicants should have a sound knowledge and understanding of environmental legislation in England including the new Environment Act with a handle on the Government’s 25-Year Environment Plan. It will be critical to understand the role peatlands have to play in England achieving Net Zero; how important it is to restore and enhance peatland sites through securing excellent water resource management for cultural, natural and historic heritage purposes. This will entail working with a suite of land managers, authorities and other bodies to identify how barriers to good peatland management may be overcome in a lowland setting.

Experience in partnership working, advocacy and project management will be required. As well as having excellent communication skills, a high level of commitment to nature’s recovery and a desire to achieve change is required. A relevant environmental qualification and/or administration or project management qualification or equivalent work experience are required. A full current UK driving licence is essential.

This is a fixed term appointment, initially to March 2023.

Supported by The Nature for Climate Fund Peatland Discovery Grant Scheme.
