Working with partners to progress sustainable development and nature recovery is a role you’ll love. Because everything’s better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

As a Senior Adviser, you’ll take a leading role in England’s sustainable development and nature recovery. It’s an exciting chance to work with partners to make sure nature gets the best deal possible. This will see you lead important reform and business improvement of planning and licensing work. For example, we might look to you to deliver biodiversity net gain

or work with Nature Recovery Partnerships. Crucially, you’ll enjoy scope to develop ambitious partnership plans for places with nature at their heart: bringing people and nature together.

To join us, you will need a degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or extensive experience of working in the environmental sector. Your track record includes applying legislative frameworks for the environment, and providing specialist advice to colleagues, customers and stakeholders including policymakers. A highly skilled communicator, you’re as comfortable coaching and mentoring staff as you are conveying complex - and sometimes challenging - messages to diverse audiences. You have a proven ability to deliver work to deadlines, and to lead on projects and reporting, within a fast-paced environment. Ideally, you will also have a driving licence.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.
