You’ll relish this opportunity to help shape a more resilient future for our marine environments. Because everything’s better with nature. You included.

At Natural England, we advise the UK Government on the natural environment. We’re here to make sure people and nature can thrive. From advising farmers on sustainable land management, to gathering and analysing environmental data, and promoting health and wellbeing through the great outdoors, we love what we do. Join us and you’ll be part of an inclusive, motivated and ambitious team, committed to achieving results for our environment, for everyone.

We’re currently recruiting to two versions of this key role. If successful you’ll be assigned to the best fit: Marine Senior Adviser - Strategic or Area Team Marine Senior Adviser - Offshore Wind. The Strategic role works on projects to maximise recovery and resilience within the marine environment. You could find yourself evaluating scope to improve (non-fisheries) Good Environmental Status indicators, leading projects around environmental net gain (marine/intertidal) and driving forward work around marine climate change - from Blue Carbon to Net Zero. Alternatively, the Offshore Wind role leads on complex fisheries work including high profile casework, project management and the provision of advice on issues enlacing conservation, SSSI monitoring and MCZ condition assessments.

To join us, you will need a relevant degree or equivalent experience, with demonstrable knowledge of marine ecology, processes and biodiversity in UK waters. Ideally, you will bring to the role a good understanding of policies, legislative frameworks and drivers for the marine environment. You’ll certainly show insight into how natural processes and land/sea management impact on the conservation and management of geodiversity, the marine and historic environments. Crucially, you will bring ambition to make a difference, collaborative spirit and a flair for communication.

We welcome and encourage applications from all communities and, wherever possible, we accommodate requests for both full and part-time hours and other flexible working patterns. Everyone at Natural England is supported to develop their skills and capabilities. You can also look forward to great benefits including a Civil Service pension.
