About Energy Saving Trust

Energy Saving Trust is an independent organisation working to address the climate emergency. We provide leadership and expertise to deliver a zero carbon society. We work with individuals, businesses, communities and governments to save energy and reduce carbon emissions.

We have two positions available in the Transport team’s Local Government Support Programme. Established in 2018, this expanding, popular programme is funded by Department for Transport.

We offer free, tailored and impartial support to help local authorities across England deliver public charging infrastructure, EV strategies, business engagement and sustainable travel initiatives. With net zero commitments, clean air and the phase out of petrol and diesel vehicles becoming priorities for many councils, now is a fantastic time to join the team.

About the role

We are looking for driven, knowledgeable individuals, passionate about decarbonising transport and improving air quality and committed to sharing their experience and enthusiasm with others.

You will initiate and build positive working relationships with local authorities to grow the reach of the programme and share your knowledge through high-quality workshops, webinars, short reports and follow-up support. You will have proven experience in a similar consultancy role. Excellent knowledge of low carbon transport, including vehicle electrification, charging infrastructure and sustainable travel, is essential. Experience of working with or for a local authority would be advantageous, as would knowledge of chargepoint or public sector procurement.

Within the team, you will have opportunity to work on varied, additional projects as agreed by our government funders. As an example, we are looking for an individual to lead the creation of a high-profile and much needed online toolkit for local authority officers. You will independently bring together evidence, expertise and lessons learnt from diverse sources to write concise, impactful guidance on a wide range of low and zero carbon transport measures, working closely with national government policy leads and other stakeholders. You will be confident in your research skills and have excellent written communication skills.

We are looking for proactive, experienced, flexible individuals who value a collaborative approach. You will be confident at managing stakeholders and projects from start to finish, balancing priorities and keeping track of programme activities.

Reporting to the Programme Manager, you will be working in a small, enthusiastic team of five, both home and office based.

We have two full-time, permanent positions. We are looking for two colleagues to specifically support local authorities in the Midlands and across South-East and East England. The Midlands role will be permanently home-based. For the South-East/East role, there is the option to work from our London office or be home-based, or a blended working approach.

Once Covid-19 restrictions are eased, we expect the roles to involve travel within your region a couple of times a month, for example to deliver a workshop for a council, and occasionally further afield within England to assist colleagues.
