Role Overview

The Embedding Sustainability Lead is an exciting leadership role that allows you to influence and deliver our sustainability agenda for one of the biggest Government departments, touching the lives of more than a hundred thousand people. You will be responsible for the delivery of one of the key Ministry of Justice (MoJ) priorities – embedding sustainability- across the MoJ estate. Leading a team of sustainability professionals, you will be working with colleagues across the Prison and Probation estate, FM partners, contractors, commercial colleagues and other key stakeholders to embed environmental sustainability across MoJ processes and procedures. Lead the embedding environmental sustainability agenda across MoJ which involves working with many teams across MoJ, embedding sustainability within key procurement, project, financial and policy processes and implementing communications and behaviour change programmes.

Deliverables/ Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a diverse team to embed sustainability across the MoJ estate
  • Work with key stakeholders including programme delivery, external consultants, FM and colleagues in prisons and probation services.
  • Lead on how sustainability is represented and later reported against in key strategic documents such as the Single Departmental Plan.
  • Lead work with Commercial and Contract Management colleagues to support the implementation of a Sustainable Procurement Policy.
  • Develop and support implementation of appropriate approaches to contract monitoring, such as devising KPIs and management information to ensure sustainability is embedded for the life-time of contracts.
  • Oversee work on behaviour change and sustainability communications within MoJ
  • Horizon scanning for best practice and new technologies that would improve the environmental impact of the MoJ
  • Lead on the MoJ climate change adaptation and resilience work
