Are you an excellent communicator who is passionate about minimising environmental impact and sustainability? Do you have a balanced approach to assessing issues and devising action plans?

We are recruiting for an experienced Environmental and Sustainability Officer to help ensure Dogs Trust is taking all reasonable steps to minimise its environmental impact and to reduce our carbon footprint.

Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Last year, Dogs Trust centres cared for over 9,000 dogs; we never put a healthy dog down.

This brand new role will sit within the Facilities Department and will report directly to the Head of Facilities and Fleet. The Environmental and Sustainability officer is responsible for developing and overseeing environmental and sustainability policies and procedures across Dogs Trusts operations in the UK and Ireland.

Having experience in a previous hands-on facilities role, you will have working knowledge of health and safety legislation and good practice. The successful candidate will need to be self-motivated, with a flexible but methodical approach to work and will be happy to work in a busy team environment. You should have excellent communication skills, along with good organisational and interpersonal skills.

In this role you will be the main point of contact in relation to environmental and sustainability issues across the charity and you will be expected to build and maintain excellent relationships with all stakeholders. You will build high levels of awareness of environmental impact issues and provide information and practical guidance on the steps each individual member of staff can make to the collective effort to ensure that all activities undertaken by Dogs Trust make the minimum possible environmental impact and that sustainability issues are consistently promoted.ย

To be successful in this role you will have membership of IEMA at Associate level or above (or other recognised professional body), as well as demonstrable experience in a similar role in a complex, multi-site organisation. You will be passionate about minimising environmental impact and sustainability, with a balanced approach to assessing issues and devising action plans, and you will have the ability to judge what is feasible in the workplace, communicating this positively to a diverse audience.

In return for all of this, we have a comprehensive benefits package, which includes excellent annual leave and pension allowances, and you will you join a team of highly professional and driven colleagues in a brilliant upbeat and collaborative environment, all with a genuine passion for dog welfare.

This post will be based in Dogs Trust London Office. (Initially there will be flexibility around location of work including working from home; interim flexible arrangements will be discussed at interview stage).
