The Council recognises that access to our countryside, parks, green spaces, coast and sports facilities remain hugely important for the health and well-being of residents and visitors. Well managed green and blue spaces are also important to provide an increase in biodiversity, nature and rewilding, contributing positively to a range of environmental issues including carbon reduction, climate change adaptation and sustainable maintenance as well as the wider economic benefits for the borough.

We are seeking to employ a creative individual who will work with colleagues across the Council to maintain high service delivery standards, provide input on planning applications, develop ideas, secure funding and implement innovative projects which assist the Council in achieving its objectives around outdoor spaces and cemeteries spaces and health and well-being as set out within our business plan.

The post holder will establish and develop close working relationships with planners, frontline operational services, sports associations, friends groups, wildlife and third sector groups and seek to develop the volunteering opportunities within the council and with partners.

The successful candidate will have responsibility for public realm services; including managing bereavement services, cemeteries, coast and countryside, parks development, trees, play areas and open spaces. The post holder will work with the user groups and the Council’s events and safety advisory group to ensure activities and events are delivered safely on Council facilities.

The post holder will need experience of managing budgets and people and must also have a proven track record delivering direct operations and strategic development including managing projects, preferably in the field of parks, greenspaces or environmental activity. It is essential for the post holder to have experience of engaging and working with communities and wider groups developing partnerships.

The post holder shall have a good understanding and experience of applying the legislative framework affecting these service areas along with a drive to deliver high quality value services. A current driving licence and a degree or equivalent higher level qualification in the leisure/parks/countryside /green space sector are also essential. A hybrid of home and office working will be considered.
