Part Time Community Engagement Officer for Lewisham and Hackney

Energy Garden

Salary: £25,000 per annum pro-rata,
Location: London (Hackney & Lewisham)
Hours: Part Time (2 days a week)
Contract: Fixed Term (until October 2021 with possibility of extension)

Energy Garden supports communities across London to turn Overground platforms into biodiverse, productive gardens with solar-powered station amenities.

Over the last seven years Energy Garden has secured funding to negotiate the legal permissions of multiple transport partners, funded staff to oversee development of gardens, run education programmes and bought the necessary materials and equipment for local people to build greener spaces. The gardens in our network are 100% run by and for the communities that use the stations. This is where you come in!

You will develop and maintain relationships with current and future community groups, station staff and managers at London Overground Stations. You will use a range of outreach methods to grow and sustain the groups and arrange for regular meetings to promote group cohesion. You will support local residents to design and deliver a range of projects, primarily at the gardens on station platforms. The projects aim to green transport corridors, build community spirit, and improve health and wellbeing throughout north and east London.

We are looking for:

  • An energetic and proactive person
  • Ideally from Hackney or Lewisham, with experience and knowledge of the area

Additional desirable skills:

  • Social media content creation

You will be responsible for:

  • engaging and communicating with people from different backgrounds
  • working with community groups to design and deliver projects that help to green the urban environment and improve local health and wellbeing,
  • building relationships, as well as connecting people with skills, tools and networks.

You will have experience working on, or participating in, community projects. You will also have good knowledge of the services and activities available in these boroughs. You will be highly organised and have a willingness to learn new things. Above all, you have a strong desire to support local people to make lasting change in their borough.

This role is aimed at young people aged 18-30, and who live in or near Hackney. You must have the right to live and work in the UK. Non-EU nationals who require a work permit in order to take up employment will not be considered.

Energy Garden is an equal opportunities employer and positively encourages applications from suitably qualified and eligible candidates regardless of sex, race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, religion or belief, marital status, or pregnancy and maternity.

We regret that we will only be able to reply, and give feedback, to short-listed applicants.
