Youth Mentor (Green Influencers Scheme)

Part time - 28 hours per week (normally worked over 4 days)

Shropshire Wildlife Trust (SWT) is working to address the ‘triple crisis’ of climate emergency, ecological crisis, and people’s disconnection from nature. We manage 41 nature reserves, we work closely with other land managers to restore habitats, and we run innovative programmes to help people of all ages and backgrounds engage with nature.

We’re currently looking for an inspiring and engaging youth leader with an ability to motivate and empower young people across the county.

About the role

The Green Mentor will recruit groups of passionate and motivated young people between 10 and 14 years old; helping them to identify their passions, getting to know the needs of their communities and peers, and designing and delivering environmental action projects.

In this role, you’ll create opportunities for high quality environmental youth social action are provided that maintain the #iwill principles of being challenging, youth-led, socially impactful, progressive, embedded and reflective.

About you

The successful candidate will have previous experience of youth engagement or working in a youth work setting. We’re looking for someone with a background in organising outdoor activities and resources along with good knowledge of the communities that form the borough of Telford and Wrekin.

Ideally, you’ll hold a relevant youth work/coaching/mentoring qualification and/or qualification and good knowledge of youth engagement techniques with a proven ability to apply them successfully. Good IT skills including Microsoft programmes, databases, online engagement software and social media are also required.

Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is also required.
