We are currently recruiting for an established and enthusiastic Principal Sustainability
consultant to join our UK-wide Climate Change, Sustainability and Resilience practice including
supporting growth across the north of England. The practice has a well-deserved reputation for
working with clients on Net Zero planning producing robust climate assessments, carbon
footprints and reduction plans that can be used with confidence in decision making supporting
the transition to Net Zero whether it be for major infrastructure projects or global
businesses. We also help clients develop their sustainability strategies and support the
integration into delivery and disclosure. The practice works across a wide range of sectors
including highways, rail, aviation, power, water utilities and urban regeneration,
manufacturing, food & drink, pharmaceutical and finance/investment.
The successful candidate will be expected to manage project teams to deliver a range of climate
change and sustainability projects for infrastructure projects as well as multi-national
businesses as well as supporting senior leaders in the practice and wider Environment &
Sustainability Business Unit to grow our climate change and sustainability services. We are
flexible on location across our UK offices.
A typical week could involve:
- Conducting and delivering technical work across a range of climate change and
sustainability projects;
- Leading project/task teams to deliver climate change and sustainability related projects;
- Managing tasks and projects covering technical, quality and financial management;
- Supporting and mentoring team members building their capacity and expertise;
- Liaising and collaborating with colleagues, clients and their advisors to deliver work on
time, budget and achieving technical excellence;
- Leading the preparation of technical reports;
- Multitasking: working across several projects and proposals, including those around climate
assessment for EIA and planning, sustainable infrastructure, climate change/sustainability
strategy, carbon footprints for products and enterprises, and Life Cycle Analysis (LCA);
- Preparing costed proposals and other business development materials (e.g. for webinars,
flyers, case studies, etc.);
- Building long term client relationships; and
- Supporting the team leadership to identify and secure new opportunities.
Minimum Requirements
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with the following:
- Strong experience in carbon accounting (covering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions) and reporting
(across a range of protocols and regulatory regimes);
- A demonstrated understanding of sustainability and climate accounting, management and
disclosure standards and guidance for example PAS 2080, WRI, ISO14064, PAS2050, TCFD, SASB, GRI
etc:;
- Familiarity with climate projections including using them to build the case with
colleagues, clients and their advisors to resilient design;
- Demonstrated experience in advising on and integrating low carbon and resilient solutions
into infrastructure design and business planning;
- Strong understanding and practical application of the requirements for climate assessment
in EIA and ESIA;
- Holistic understanding of sustainability, with a particular interest in carbon management;
- A desire to delivery technical excellence;
- Project and financial management experience;
- Commercial awareness for business development, marketing, and proposal preparation;
- Great communication skills in English, fluency in other languages an advantage;
- Solid numeracy skills, confidence in working with large data sets and advanced Excel
skills;
- Problem solving abilities. Self-starter, who can design and deliver work under own
initiative; and
- A science-based background i.e. relevant MSc or equivalent qualification in Sustainability,
Carbon, Energy or similar, and a strong undergraduate degree in a STEM based subject.
Preferred Qualifications
Ideally, you will have previous experience with a consultancy firm, although applications from
candidates with industry/corporate backgrounds are also welcome.
