Plantlife Scotland are seeking a community scientist to work with people in the Cairngorms on the Rare Plants and Wild Connections project, a National Lottery funded project which aims to empower local people to conserve some of the rarest plants in the Cairngorms.

About the role:

Working in the Cairngorms, you will be part of a small friendly team delivering an exciting programme of community engagement, citizen science and outreach work aimed at empowering local people to conserve some of the National Park’s rarest plants and valuable habitats. The National Lottery Heritage Funded project ‘Rare Plants and Wild Connections’ is being delivered by Plantlife Scotland. The community scientist role is part time (0.6 FTE) and is a fixed term contract from April 2021 until December 2023 and will report to the Cairngorms Rare Plants and Wild Connections project manager. You will lead on developing and delivering an engaging programme of events, using a blended approach of digital communication tools and outside activities to work with a wide range of people from young people, local communities, partner organisations, landowners and visitors.

COVID-19: While restrictions apply during the pandemic, the community scientist will be expected to work from home, however a friendly and supportive office environment at the SNH Achantoul office in Aviemore will be available.

The role will, post Covid restrictions, require occasional travel across the UK to meet supporters and visit other Plantlife locations, however the majority of travel will be within the Cairngorms area. We work normal office hours (9-5, Monday to Friday), although this role will also require some weekend and evening working. We offer flexible working and will consider a home base for the right candidate.

A full job description and person specification are available to download from the Plantlife website. If you fit the bill, please complete the application form, explaining fully why you would like to be considered for this role and return it to [email protected]

We expect to hold interviews on 17th and 18th February on line using ZOOM.
