We want Southampton to be a cleaner, greener, healthier and more sustainable city, prepared for the challenges presented by climate change. Our Green City Plan demonstrates how we will achieve this and we are seeking environmental professionals to help us deliver this ambitious programme.

Covering a variety of interrelated themes including energy and carbon reduction, transport, waste, resources and the natural environment the successful candidates will support the Green City Lead and a range of council services in delivering this key corporate priority.

There are two posts available. One focused on the development and implementation of our local air quality management plan. The other on the wider sustainability agenda.

Both must be qualified to a graduate level (or equivalent) in an environmental science discipline, have a good understanding of the current air quality management or sustainability agenda within local government or a similarly complex organisation and have recent experience of delivering a range of environmental management and improvement activities.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to identify desired outcomes and opportunities, assess viable solutions, generate delivery plans and subsequently ensure these are delivered to agreed time, cost, quality and compliance objectives.

Working within a small team on a multi-project programme across a large organisation it is essential that you can be flexible, are able to work under pressure and prioritise workloads. You will need to supervise staff and be able to communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders with varying levels of technical knowledge including community/campaign groups, contractors, Councillors and partners.
