Job description

Job Title: Engagement Officer, Wildlife Aid Foundation, Leatherhead, Surrey

£13,000, part time, self employed

Contract: initially 1 year (extension subject to future funding)

The Wildlife Aid Foundation (WAF) has been rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing wild animals in Surrey for 40 years. We are developing our environmental education work and are seeking to employ an engagement officer to develop and deliver our environmental engagement programme iDot (I Do One Thing).

Purpose of the role:

To create long term engagement in the iDot programme with range of audiences

Main duties:

  • Create a series of iDot resources that can be downloaded from the WAF/iDot website (https://idot-waf.org.uk) These will include activities and projects for families, longer projects for community groups, curriculum mapped primary school activities and activities specifically for people with Additional Learning Needs
  • Deliver talks to schools and community groups encouraging everyone to Do One Thing for nature, every day
  • Deliver CPD events for teachers and group leaders
  • Support and encourage all participants to add their iDots to the counter on the iDot website
  • Create and train iDot Champions, who will share their learning and encourage others to take part
  • Be the main point of contact for iDot
  • Maintain GDPR compliant register of iDot participants
  • Work alongside the WAF media team creating engaging social media posts to promote iDot
  • Provide quarterly reports on project progress for the CEO and WAF board

Other duties:

  • To perform all tasks in line with WAF’s core purpose and the ethos of iDot.
  • To keep up-to-date with any similar programmes to iDot
  • To actively represent WAF when promoting iDot to all audiences
  • To work on or off site as required

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Experience of delivering learning to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for wildlife and the local environment

Qualities:

  • Understanding of and keen interest in environmental issues, including those affecting urban wildlife.
  • Ability to enthuse others
  • Ability to write engaging text appropriate to different audiences
  • Enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Additional information:

  • This is offered an initial one-year contract with possible extension; dependant on future funding and the growth of iDot
  • This is a part-time appointment and some weekend or evening working will be required, for which time off in lieu is given
  • The post will be on a self-employed basis
  • The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check
  • Car driver with a full clean driving licence (desirable)
