The Trust has recently been successful with a major funding application from the Green Recovery Challenge Fund for our project: Sherwood Forest's Truth – Woods, Heathlands and People.
In our 25th anniversary year, we are looking to recruit three new posts - Conservation Manager,
Community Conservation Officer
and Nature Volunteer Coordinator.
We aim to restore lowland heathlands, strategically design, plan and plant new woodland areas
and ensure greater community engagement with nature.
Conservation Manager (NJC Hay A, Pt 24)
To manage the delivery of our sustainable landscape management programmes, with particular focus on conservation, restoration, creation and management of heathland and woodland within the Sherwood Forest Landscape Character Area.
To do this by providing appropriate advice to the Chief Executive, to local landowners, land managers and community groups, by managing contracts and consultants, and by the development and delivery of partnership projects with other organisations including national nature charities.
You will be required to maintain the Heathland Register, plus data files on Sites of Special Scientific Interest and Local Wildlife Sites, including use of MapInfo as required.
You will be based at Edwinstowe in Nottinghamshire, but will be required to work at home if
necessary and to travel out to sites both within and outside Nottinghamshire.
You will line manage three members of staff.
You will be a positive and ‘can do’ person with a keen interest in land management for conservation and nature. You will enjoy liaising with people at various different levels, from professionals to community volunteers and local school children.

Background Information on the Sherwood Forest Trust for Job Applicants
The Sherwood Forest Trust is a Nottinghamshire charity (established 25 years) with a mission to help protect, preserve and promote the remains of the former Royal Hunting Forest of Sherwood. We are a Registered Charity 1119614, www.sherwoodforesttrust.org.uk)
In our terms, Sherwood Forest is not confined to the present day National Nature Reserve (home of The Major Oak), but covers the whole of the Sherwood Forest ‘Landscape Character Area.’ Our constitution permits us to work in any area of Nottinghamshire, and also the District of Bolsover.
The Trust works in partnership with many organisations operating regionally and locally, ranging from major landowners, managers and farmers, local authorities at all levels, community and ‘friends’ groups, schools, other nature, conservation and heritage charities and the business sector.
The Trust is a not for profit organisation, deriving its funds from grants, donations, fund raising, sponsorship and undertaking paid consultancy or conservation management work, eg: for local District Councils.
The three areas of work on which the Trust focusses are:
Nature – heathland and woodland conservation, restoration and management.
Heritage – celebrating and promoting the legend, history and traditional crafts of Sherwood Forest.
Community – helping to promote greater engagement of people with nature,
improving social cohesion, learning and co-operation within the modern communities of Sherwood
Forest.
