This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic international NGO, WasteAid. WasteAid is supporting governments and communities worldwide to tackle the waste management crisis that is impacting on the health, the livelihoods and the environment of some of the poorest communities in the world. WasteAid is looking for an experienced and dynamic Digital Communications Officer to support on the digital content on the Circular Economy Network flagship project.

Purpose of the Role

To manage the digital content of the online hub of WasteAid’s flagship project, Home - Circular Economy Network as well as the social media content on twitter @circeconnetwork and WasteAid's Circular Economy Network on LinkedIn .

The Circular Economy Network is a 2-year project funded by Global Packaging company Huhtamaki. The aim is to form a network between existing entrepreneurs and innovators, research institutes, corporate and government partners that are working to bring the Circular Economy into a reality in their own countries. Initially the network will be developed in three locations (Vietnam, Johannesburg and India) but over time the hope is that the network will spread to more countries.


The online hub is a critical part of the project, to drive ‘membership’ to the Circular Economy Network through the hub. 

Key tasks and responsibilities

  • Ensure all digital content is up to date and accurate on Circular Economy Network website
  • Develop, manage and update all the content for Circular Economy Network website and social media
  • Manage a monthly content plan (events, webinars, articles) sourcing compelling content from the three hubs and beyond to drive membership to the network 
  • Work with the Project Managers on the ground to create and source visual and video content that brings the Circular Economy Network to life and support the Network Director in writing engaging articles and blog posts
  • Be responsible for the Circular Economy Network mailbox, responding to Circular Economy Network/Membership enquiries
  • Work with Huhtamaki client communications to ensure that they are able to promote the project and increase the visibility of the project with their own network
  • Take responsibility for WasteAid’s digital circular economy network contact database
  • Edit and proof read materials to ensure consistency and compliance with WasteAid’s brand, key messages and style guidelines
  • Manage digital chat fora on circular economy topics

Person Specification

Education, qualifications and other knowledge


  • Educated to degree level or equivalent


  • A relevant qualification in digital comms



  • Proficient in design, including good working knowledge of WordPress, Photoshop, Adobe Acrobat suite, Mailchimp, Zoom
  • Experience of developing and managing websites
  • Evidence of producing inspiring digital content building an engaged social media following
  • Excellent writing skills, able to tailor copy to the target audience and to simplify complex information, with clear evidence of ability to write for the web
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of working in the environmental sector


  • Experience of creating and editing compelling video assets
  • Experience/knowledge of circular economy and waste management
  • Experience in working within data General Data Protection Regulations
  • Experience of collaborating with media contacts (client, other networks that could publicise the content etc)
  • Experience of supporting staff in remote offices

  • A demonstrable interest in WasteAid’s work
