Senior Policy Officer
Reference number: A1361120
Location: Bedfordshire or London area but can be flexible
Salary: Starting at £30,817 to £34,472 per annum
Hours: Full time
Contract: Fixed Term for 2 years

Are you passionate about tackling climate change and biodiversity declines? Are you an effective convener, coordinator, advocate and policy campaigner? If yes, then we have an exciting opportunity for you at the RSPB.

Through generous funding from the European Climate Foundation, we are advertising for a Senior Policy Officer to join our Land, Seas and Climate Policy team, on a 2 year contract. Your role would be to develop and drive forward an advocacy campaign to highlight the risks of bioenergy and BECCS (Bioenergy with carbon capture and storage) to the climate and to biodiversity, and the choices that UK decision makers need to make to limit them.

You will be directly responsible for reaching out to other environmental organisations working on climate change, land use and energy in the UK and driving effective coalition work on bioenergy and BECCS, spanning a wide range of tools and tactics, from direct political advocacy to public campaigning and beyond. Your range of potential targets will be equally wide, from trade deals, international policy frameworks (e.g. UNFCCC) and domestic policy and legislation - much of which is devolved in the UK.

We are a passionate, committed and fun organisation to work for and are excited to welcome a new member to the team. We are looking for a well-organised and driven self-starter who is comfortable with time bound, and sometime pressurised, project working. We are able to offer flexibility of location - although regular travel (when normal working service resumes), often into London, would be a key part of the role in the context of partnership working and advocacy.

Closing date: 7 December 2020
Interviews are likely to take place the week commencing 14th December.
